SIMPLE PAST
EXPRESSES AN ACTION, OR A STATE OF BEING THAT HAPPENED COMPLETELY IN THE PAST.
Conjugation:
When conjugating a Regular Verb we simply add the ending -ed
ex. I picked a flower yesterday. (verb to pick)
If the Regular Verb ends with an "e" then we simply add -d
ex. I lived in that house when I was a boy. (verb to live)
*Certain verbs change spelling when they are conjugated and take -ed.
*Look your verb up in the dictionary to make sure it is spelled correctly. If it has a change in spelling when conjugated the dictionary will tell you.
Exceptions:
There are approximately 100 verbs that do not follow this rule.
They are Irregular Verbs.
*Irregular Verbs must be looked up in the dictionary to find out how they are written when conjugated in the past. Sometimes the word is completely different!!
