Here is a global breakdown of how you will be evaluated this year. I feel it is both fair and easy to apply. The three competences that will be evaluated are the same as previous years. Here they are along with their respective weight in determining your global mark :

Those percentages can also be broken down separately as follows :

Interpréter des textes littéraires, courants et informatifs(40%)

35% is to be evaluated as part of the various projects we do throughout the year. The remaining 5% will be awarded through a series of 4 reading comprehension tests to enable Mark and I to measure the students' level of understanding in decoding the language itself.

Écrire des textes variés (40%)

30% is focused on the writing process with the remaining 10% being reserved to evaluate the quality of the students' written English throughout the projects, all year long.

Intéragir oralement (20%)

The rule is simple : Whenever in ELA class, students have to speak English. It is quite simple. 12% is awarded at the end of the year. Those who won't use the language in class or speak another language will get extra homework and -2% on every offense. After a second offense, parents will be contacted and the student will receive evening detention. Note that on a sixth offense, the third detention will take place on a Saturday. It is also possible to get +1% back in a subsequent semester if no further derogation from the rule is encountered. The student is master of his fate. The extra 8% is awarded at the end of the year based on fluency and improvement.
